jack the ripper arc[contains spoilers] history:Jack the Ripper was a serial killer who stalked the streets of London during the latter half of 1888. To this day, no one is entirely certain of his identity, or even if the murders were committed by a single person. Five women are known to have been killed by him (Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, and Mary Jane Kelly), though it's possible there were more. The killings were extremely violent and disturbing. The fact that several of the victims were missing internal organs has often been pointed to as evidence that the killer might have had some medical training manga: Jack the Ripper did indeed have medical knowledge, as Madam Red was employed as a doctor. Her obsession with childbirth as a motive for the crimes is used as an explanation for why the mutilation of the victims often involved the removal of all or part of the uterus. The murder that Ciel and Sebastian walk in on was that of Mary Jane Kelly, historically the only victim to be murdered inside a building. Ciel later pays for her funeral and interment. history: Kelly was the last of the five Ripper victims.An attractive women in her mid-twenties, Kelly reportedly lived in Ireland and Wales as a child. In London, she worked in a brothel in the West End, briefly moved to France with a client, and eventually returned to London. On the night of her murder, witnesses saw her at home singing drunken songs late into the night. Her heavily-mutilated corpse was discovered in the morning by her landlord. manga: Ciel and Sebastian walk in on Kelly's murder, interrupting the later part of the mutilation. Later, Ciel provides the funds for her burial, as he feels guilty for not interfering in the murder before it was too late. more information:
history: Druitt was a barrister, an assistant schoolmaster, and the son of a physician. He became a prime suspect in the Jack the Ripper case when it was discovered that he had committed suicide by weighing himself down with rocks and jumping into the Thames shortly after the last of the five Ripper murders. However, questions have been raised about whether or not he should be considered a serious suspect due to a lack of evidence. manga: Druitt lends his name to Alaist Chamber, the Viscount Druitt. Like his historical counterpart, Chamber was briefly considered by Ciel to be a suspect in the Ripper murders. He was proved to be innocent of the murders but guilty of human trafficking. more information:
